Agape Bebe featured in North Platte Telegraph

Here is the North Platte telegraph article talking about the blanket and the other props I made for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. I am having fun being interviewed about this whole experience. I still want to give God the credit for putting this entire thing into place!!

THE ORIGINAL STORY FROM NP TELEGRAPH IS NO LONGER ON AIR...BUT HERE IS THE TEXT OF THE ARTICLE! ;-)

A blanket for 'Button'
Sherlyn Edwards of North Platte crochets a blanket similar to the one she designed for the upcoming movie called "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button." Edwards, who creates custom crocheted clothing and accessories, was contacted by a Hollywood representative two years ago to make an Angora wool blanket for the movie.

The North Platte TelegraphFor years, Sherlyn Edwards of North Platte has been creating custom crocheted clothing and accessories that she sells all over the world through her Web-based business called "Agape Bebe."So when she received a request to create a Victorian-style blanket out of Agora wool, she didn't think much about it at the time. What she didn't realize is that the blanket would be used in a famous Hollywood movie."It was such a cool thing," Edwards said. "We give credit to God for it."She said the initial e-mail inquiry from Hope Parrish, a famous Hollywood property master, came through an old company Web site that she doesn't even promote anymore."Her finding me was a complete accident," Edwards said.

She later talked to Parrish by phone. That's when Edwards learned that the blanket she was being asked to design would be used in the movie "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett. The movie tells the story of Benjamin Button, a man who ages backwards. Although the movie will not be in theatres until Dec. 25, trailers of the film show an infant wrapped in the wool blanket created by Edwards.Because the blanket is what is referred to as a hero prop, Edwards said she had to make six identical blankets in case one was damaged. The blanket is an ivory color in the movie. However, Edwards said she used a darker, oatmeal colored yarn so that filmmakers could get the color they wanted under the bright lights.Edwards said the first blanket she made was rejected because it looked more like a rug. Edwards admits she used a fairly tight stitch on her first attempt, but she eventually found a design they liked."They wanted kind of a Victorian-style blanket," she said.Edwards said she was first contacted by Parrish in August of 2006, and it took about a year for her to complete the order. She said she spent about a month on each blanket, working four to six hours a day.The yarn used to make the blankets was Angora wool imported from Peru, South America. Edwards said she received the wool in batts that had to be rolled into balls before she could start crocheting."It would take 10 hours just rolling this stuff into balls," Edwards said. After finishing the blankets, Edwards was asked to create some starter projects, or partially finished pieces that could be used by characters in the movie to look like they are crocheting.Edwards said she is really looking forward to seeing the movie. Unfortunately, she won't be listed in the ending credits of the film, but she is still excited about seeing her finished product on the big screen.Although it's been over a year since she finished her initial order, Edwards said she hasn't gotten any more calls from Hollywood. But when she does, she is ready to go."They were absolutely the most fabulous people to work with," Edwards said. "Most of my regular clients know that if I get a call from Hollywood, I'm gone for several months doing what they need me to do."Edwards, who is a mother of three, has been crocheting ever since she was 7 years old. She learned her skills from her grandmother, and continues to crochet whenever she can.She sells her creations through her own Web site as well as on E-Bay and other online retailers."I sell all over the world," Edwards said. "I have boutiques that buy my items and then they resell them."While the exposure hasn't created a noticeable spike in sales, Edwards said she is seeing a lot more hits on her Web site. However, she acknowledged that she is not really doing this for the fame or fortune."For me it's more just a legacy that I can give my kids," Edwards said. "If I never ever do this again, at least I can tell my kids that Mommy got to crochet a blanket for a movie."

We Made the Local News!!!

Yesterday I was interviewed by our Local Station!! It was so much fun and I was impressed by the professionalism of Kendra and the other staff members of KNOPTV!

See The News Story & Video Here!!
UPDATE: The video is now off the website, hopefully we will be able to get it so that we can upload it to this site! ;-)

Here is the text from the news story:
Crocheting Her Way Onto The Big Screen

By Kendra Potter.

One Nebraska mom is crocheting her way onto the big screen.

A woman from North Platte got the chance of the lifetime, crocheting blankets for major movie starring Brad Pitt.

Crocheting is a passion of Sherlyn Edwards.

"I crochet when I watch TV, I crochet when we are driving down the interstate, I crochet at the lake," Edwards says.

Edwards crochets everything from blankets, to booties, and scarves.

The North Platte mom says, "I am a custom boutique designer, and what that means is I design children's clothing and accessories for the internet, and my items are sold all over the world."

But one day her crocheting became more than just a hobby it became her ticket to Hollywood.

Edwards was asked to crochet blankets for an upcoming major film.

Edwards says, "Ray was sitting across from me and he was like what's going on, and I said I just got a call from Hollywood and they want me to make blankets for a movie. I didn't find out until later that the movie "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" and it's starring Brad Pitt. And who wouldn't take that on."

Edwards was contacted through her old website in 2006. For two years she has been working with the prop master creating different prototypes trying to work up the perfect blanket.

"We had to search all over the United States and the world to find the exact yarn that would look right under the lights and on camera. And so I did this test blanket, the director didn't like it, and we spent hours on it, so I had to redo it and do another design, " Edwards adds.

Because it's what they call a hero prop, she had to create six identical blankets.

Edwards adds, "They had to be absolutely identical, I couldn't have anything different, the stitches had to be identical, the size had to be identical, so that they could shoot it in several different scenes and the blanket wouldn't change."

Right now her blankets can be seen on movie trailers on the internet.

"In the trailer at the very beginning of the trailer there is a gentlemen carrying the baby and he is setting it on the stairs and the baby is wrapped up in this cream ivory type blanket, an older looking blanket and he sets the baby on the stairs, " Edwards says.

Edwards and the world will get to see her blankets on the big screen when the movie hits theatres Christmas Day.

"I never thought in a millions years this would happen, it was just the most amazing thing, and it really was a God thing. It was just an awesome experience. I hope I get to do it again," Edwards adds.

More Pictures of My Blankets!!

A picture from an article.
My blanket is the one with the guy on the steps. Here is another picture I found.
This must be one of Benjamin right after he's born.
So once again I came across more pictures of the blankets on the set of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. It's just a little over 30 days before I will be able to see them on the big screen and I'm getting totally stoked. To top it off on Oprah the other day...they showed more clips from the film so I got to see even more of the blankets!!

Here's the Blanket!!

Here's a picture I took of the blanket before I sent it out to Hollywood!! I still am just so amazed that this happened and I was blessed to be part of something so cool!!!

IT'S ALMOST HERE!!! ;-) I'M LIKE A KID AT CHRISTMAS!!

As it gets closer and closer to Christmas Day, I am eagerly awaiting The Curious Case of Benjamin Button to come out. For those of you that do not know, in 2006 I was hired to make prop afghans and then later other crochet props for the Brad Pitt movie that will be coming out on Christmas Day this year. The blanket I made can be seen right at the beginning of the movie when the baby is laid down on the stairs and then in front of the doctors. I have yet to see the other props that I made for the movie. I made two starter scarf projects, some afghan squares and some crochet wasclothes as well. The website for the movie is here!!

Who Am I???
The Person Behind the Designs!!

Hi I'm Sherlyn Edwards a Custom Boutique Crochet Clothing and Prop Designer. While I have been crocheting for over 26 years, I have only been in the design world for about 7 years. My designs have been sold all over the world and I absolutely love all my my clients and have made tons of friends over the years. I started out selling under the name Baby Edwards Designs and then changed my name to Agape Bebe by Sherlyn Edwards to reflect my Christian faith and to help my clients find me more easily. My most exciting experience was making baby blankets and other various crochet props for the movie The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. I finally got to see the trailer and was so stoked to see my baby blanket!! I absolutely can not wait until the movie comes out in December. In addition to being a designer, I am married to the most wonderful man and have three amazing sons and five absolutely gorgeous step-daughters!! While I mostly live in boy world with my husband and the boys, I absolutely look forward to visits from my special girls to get that needed girl time!! I get to talk about clothes, hair and boys. I even have been educated in the true art of shopping which with four males in the house is very hard to do! My husband and I are on the worship team at my church and we have recently started helping out with our youth group!! We also homeschool our three boys which has more rewards than I could ever express in a single posting. God has truly blessed my life with an amazing family and tons of friends!!
